Abstract
In Finland the research into millimeter wave techniques started from the challenge of radio astronomy 16 years ago. In 1973-74 a 13.7 m diameter millimeter wave telescope antenna was erected at the Metsahovi Radio Research Station near Helsinki. The telescope is owned and operated by the Helsinki University of Technology (HUT). Since 1975 several low noise telescope receivers for frequencies from 22 to 115 GHz have been built in the Radio Laboratory of HUT.
