Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. The status of applications and system development in the millimeter-wave range will be described. Progress in this area has been substantial during the past few years, and the technology up to 140 GHz is now firmly established. Above this frequency the activities are more research-oriented, but include extensive work in radio astronomy and airborne passive radiometric remote sensing (for meteorological sounding or terrain imaging). The discussion will illustrate how the technology is being applied in such areas as communications, direction finding, radar, electronic warfare, and missile guidance, as well as radiometry and radio astronomy. Certain aspects of technology development will be considered in detail as they impact system considerations.
