Abstract :
A new technique that utilizes a 200 kV transmission electron microscope (TEM) and equipped with a light detection system is recently developed. This TEM cathodoluminescence technique is applied to study light emission in two-dimensional plasmonic nanocrystals. When the electron beam is incident parallel to surfaces of periodic structures, Smith-Purcell radiation is observed along with the surface plasmon polariton (SPP) induced radiation. This Smith-Purcell radiation-SPP interaction is observed in the contrast of dispersion curves in angular resolved images.
