Abstract
Achieving high data rate greater than 200Mbps for MB-OFDM UWB communications is a challenging task. Constrains of limited power and degrading transmission medium are the key hurdles. Currently most existing data systems can reach a data rate of only 80Mbps. This study proposes the use of spatial diversity to enhance the MB-OFDM UWB system performance while achieving high data rate. Spatial diversity is employed over short antenna spacing starting from a third of the wavelength. Maximum combining ratio (MRC) and Antenna selection methods are used. The system performance is evaluated considering both line of sight (LOS) and Non Line of sight (NLOS) cases. The results show that a Gain of up to 8dB is achieved using MRC as compared to an SISO (single input single output system).
