Abstract :
Pulsedgas lasers withpower up to 1 MW, step-tunable throughout thefar infrared, are used to induce nonthermal population among electronic states in condensed media. In consequence, saturated transmission and phoroconducrance are observed and yield dynamic information on a ns tops scale. Also, bulk second and third harmonic genera don are studied to evaluate nonlinear potentials of lattice ions andfree electrons.
