Abstract
Postulates that the the biophysical principles which describe protein structure can be translated by an individual, acting as a knowledge engineer, into a pattern based formalism for the purpose of structure prediction. Building on previous work that used regular expression patterns to aid in the identification of sequence-structure correlates, the paper describes a specification language for the expression of meta level patterns, and a computer interface to aid the development of patterns for secondary structure prediction. Application of predictive patterns to protein sequences are provided in the context of this software tool
