Abstract
Open standards have the potential to greatly simplify the way a utility´s infrastructure is developed. Moreover the software development process of applications based on that infrastructure is improved. To facilitate the development of location based services (LBS), Parlay/OSA is used as an open standard development platform for such services. It supports application programming interfaces for accessing different network architectures that can be used by LBS services to query for location of a mobile. The Parlay/OSA framework also addresses security concerns. For LBS services to be complete, a geospatial database must be used to provide information based on location. An extension to the Parlay/OSA gateway is thus proposed to encapsulate the necessary APIs for querying geospatial databases.
