Abstract :
Discusses Motif Validation Environment (MVE), a set of tools to produce test suites to validate the conformance of Motif implementation to its specification. The complexity of graphical user interfaces makes validation a task which requires significant time and effort. By automating the process of test generation and test runs, MVE provides a solution to the problem of manual testing. MVE consists of a language to describe the behavior of Motif widgets and default characteristics, a parser for parsing the syntax of the language, a test generator, and a controlled environment for automatically and consistently validating the conformance of Motif implementations to Motif Widget Set specifications. The test runs produce a profile of known and detected discrepancies which may be used to identify and resolve the implementation issues. MVE also provides a set of support libraries for input synthesis (synthesis of events) and checking the correctness of the visuals
