Abstract :
With the world environment is changing fast and extreme weather events frequently emerge, there is an increasing urgency on water resources utilization and protection, and the importance of informatization of water resources is particularly prominent. In this study, by the strict definition of the concept and the relationship within the fields of water conservancy and hydropower, the meaning of the concept of system is determined, so as to build a machine understandable knowledge model of - SKOS-based ontology of water resources. This application model combines SKOS framework with faceted classification to shape an ontology model for water conservancy and hydropower and to provide a good method in a variety of knowledge library construction for water resources. Furthermore, this application model uses faceted classification principle to build domain ontology. With this kind of ontology construction method, many perspectives from which to browse and search information on water resources and hydropower can be achieved, and the users´ personalized needs can be met beyond the constrain of the traditional hierarchical classification. This is thus far found to be a particular, important issue unresolved in the field of water resources and hydropower.
