Abstract :
We present a multimode transmission method using WPM (wavelet packet modulation) and OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing). The WPM using the discrete wavelet transform is a multiplexing transmission method in which data is assigned to wavelet subbands having different time and frequency resolutions. The WPM keeps data transmission throughput even in tone and impulse interference environments that cannot be achieved with conventional multiplexing methods such as TDM (time division multiplexing) or OFDM. On the other hand, the OFDM has a better BER performance in multipath fading environments than WPM. Taking advantage of these properties, we propose an adaptive transmission in those interference environments using multimode transmission of WPM and OFDM, and evaluate its performances through computer simulations.
