Abstract
A review is given of the history and status of the MIS area, with emphasis on the IS doctoral program, at Indiana University. The discussion includes the graduate curriculum and teaching mission, philosophy of doctoral education at IU and culture of IS doctoral program, research paradigms practiced, placement of doctoral graduates, strengths and weaknesses of the program, and faculty interests, among other characteristics. The authors also use their experience and analysis of IS doctoral education to raise issues of interest to all doctoral/research schools
