Abstract
This paper presents the development and validation of a generic synchronous machine model to be used in real time power plant training simulators. The model accurately simulates a wide range of training scenarios including normal operation, malfunctions, and specific equipment symptomatic tests. The model developed is based on IEEE´s Model 2.2 (a sixth order model) with modifications added in order to include effects such as magnetic saturation in the air-gap, residual magnetism, and rotor velocity influence on voltage. The model is validated comparing calculated and plant data for various scenarios. A good approximation between simulated and power plant data is obtained.
