Abstract
In this paper, a beam forming network controlled by a neural network implemented on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is presented. A Butler matrix feeding the linear antenna array is used to electronically steer the beams in the desired direction. The four microstrip patches and the 4×4 planar Butler matrix are optimized using the Momentum feature of Advance Design System (ADS) for a 2.4 GHz operation. A neural network is designed to control the beam angle. The neural network and the code for the FPGA have been respectively simulated and generated using Matlab Simulink and Xilinx System Generator.
