Abstract
Investing in portable computers for students is a controversial issue. The paper focuses on pedagogical aspects of such an endeavour. It reports on a case study of portable computer use by students in the Master´s degree program in Information Technology at Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden. The results are promising, indicating that in general students learn more and that they use the computers for collaboration
