Abstract :
The author selected different kinds of polyfunctional monomer in PVC (polyvinyl chloride) formulation and studied their radiation curing processes. Some selected monomers of different concentration in PVC formulation, with different radiation doses, gel fraction, volume resistivity, loss of weight after heat aging, and mechanical properties (as represented by tensile strength and elongation at break), were measured in order to determine the relations of these with radiation dose, to obtain the best dose range as well as to determine which monomer and what concentration are to be recommended. It is concluded that, in the presence of polyfunctional monomer, there is always a turning stage in the change of mechanical and electric properties, heat loss, and crosslinking. The radiation dose should be controlled near the dose indicated by the turning. The crosslinking depends on the kind and amount of monomer as well as radiation dose
