Abstract
Extended-Range Electric Vehicles (E-REV) are principally battery electric vehicles with a relatively small auxiliary power unit (APU) to recharge the battery pack or directly to propel the vehicle during driving, which is seen as one of the most promising technological bridges between the vehicles of today and the sustainable concepts of tomorrow. Different powertrain system topologies of E-REVs are introduced in this paper. Based on the R&D work of a pluggable PEMFC E-REV, the design requirements and methods for key components, such as electric hub motor, battery system, Range extender, are given. Finally, the energy management strategy for this PEMFC E-REV is discussed and validated together with the vehicle performances on ADVISOR simulation platform.
