Abstract
The authors present the results of a dynamic model developed to estimate the pollution flashover voltage (FOV) for various types of practical insulator configurations. The model uses established concepts readily available for computation. For the illustration of the model, the computed results are compared with the experimental data of other researchers. The model is extended to an equivalent simple flat plate model corresponding to the actual insulator, which is more feasible for use, both in laboratory and computer simulations. The good agreement between the computed results with previous experimental data suggests that the model can be used for insulator design. The model can be used to show the linear correlation between a string of insulators and a single unit, which is very convenient in the case of UHV systems
