Abstract :
With the English and Welsh electricity supply monopoly due to be removed on all sites down to 100 kW demand from April 1994, it is increasingly important that cost-effective metering and processing systems are available to handle this half-hour data if competitive suppliers are not to be handicapped. The author therefore adopts the recording of half-hour kW demand data as a basic metering requirement for above-100 kW second-tier supplies. The author discusses the basic metering requirements, monthly communications, daily remote communications and the benefits of remote communications. The design of a polyphase meter with integral demand recording is discussed
