The key elements of success for distribution line carrier (DLC) systems

In cooperation with Electricie de France, Landis and Gyr started a project with the goal to specify a distribution line carrier (DLC) system which can meet the technical (performance) requirements as well as the commercial (price) requirements. A successful DLC system must be based on the two key elements: openness and robustness. The authors describe these two elements in detail. The DLC system is based on an OSI architecture and spread frequency shift keying modulation. The use of DLC as part of an automatic meter data exchange system is also discussed
