Abstract
A formula for the permittivity expansion of the Claussius-Mossotti function is derived using a virial formalism. The liquids considered consist of nonpolar, axial molecules possessing permanent quadrupole moments and anisotropic polarizability. The second and third permittivity virial coefficients can be evaluated on the basis of two and three body interactions; the intermolecular potential used is of the Lennard-Jones form. The results are in satisfactory agreement with experimental data on CCl4, CH4, C2H6, C3H8, and n-alkanes, (C4 to C10)
