Abstract
Examines the performance over an HF channel of an adaptive DFE, when its taps are derived from an estimate of the sampled channel impulse response. The conventional approach to adaptation is to adjust the equalizer taps directly to minimize a least squares error cost function. It is shown that the channel estimate approach yields superior performance
