Abstract
A conducting polymer, polypyrrole, with a treelike pattern has been prepared by an electrochemical polymerization method using a point-circle electrode system. The patterns have a characteristic of self-similarity which is called a fractal. The pattern of the growth of polypyrrole on the bottom of the cell is similar to that of a diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA). Various fractal patterns of growth of the conducting polymer have been simulated by a field-assisted DLA model. The simulated model was also confirmed experimentally in that the concentration of solution was changed in the course of the polymerization process
