Abstract :
In this article, the nature of reactive power is investigated. It is shown that the separation of instantaneous power into two useful and nonuseful energy related elements does not fulfil the basic energy relationship of the circuit and that active circuit elements are also related to the exchange of energy between source and load. An ideal synchronous generator model is used to investigate the torque and energy phenomena in relation to the electric circuit parameters. A complex electromagnetic torque is defined in the generator. The real and imaginary DC components of the complex torque are shown to be related to the active and reactive powers in the electric circuit, thus confirming the new concept in AC power theory
