Abstract
A network monitoring and analysis (NMA) system developed by Bell Communications Research (Bellcore) is able to communicate with power system monitor/controllers via Bellcore´s Transaction Language One (TL 1) messages transported by X.25 protocols. Emerging international and national standards focus on applying open systems interconnection (OSI) tools to standardize the operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning (OAM&P) support of telecommunications network elements. The author discusses these influences and offers insight into the operations support of the power system monitor/controller when connected with a telecommunications network
