Abstract :
The frustration and loneliness suffered by children with speech problems is being partly relieved by an electronic mail system. IBM is helping to fund the Chatback project which enables children with little or no speech to exchange messages with pen-friends all over the world. Each child accepted is given a CAMPUS 2000 (Prestel) account which includes Telecom Gold mailbox for his own personal use enabling him to send and receive information. A modem is also provided with appropriate communications software, and training for support teachers is available if required
