Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to underline the property of periodic structures consisting of layers with imaginary wavenumbers for ballistic electrons to allow charge carrier propagation in certain energy bands. Such periodic structures are analogous to composite optical metamaterials. In addition, we compare the dependence on energy of two time parameters with relevance for electron pulses and beams: the phase time and the traversal time, respectively.
