Abstract
Mathematical models to describe the electromagnetic behavior of electric machines, like generators, and transformers are well developed. When these components are interconnected then the magnetic flux equations become coupled. Circuit simulators decouple these components by adding shunt resistors at the interface, increasing simulation time. This paper derives the coupled equations as a single state space model. This is a much more numerically efficient way to simulate a system where an electric machine is feeding a transformer. In this case a three phase generator feeds a 12 phase transformer. The four separate three phase outputs feed thyristor rectifiers to produce a regulated DC bus.
