Abstract :
The author is concerned with the development of ultrasonic arrays for use as part of an ultrasonic imaging system. The system is designed specifically for use in air and uses electrostatic as opposed to piezoelectric transducer technology. By using a separate single large transmitter and the array as a receiver, the range can be improved considerably compared with a system where the elements are used as transmitters
