Abstract :
The Phileas developed by advanced public transportation systems (APTS) is a new concept for comfortable, high frequent passenger mass transport. Its unique safety requirements impose a serious challenge for the development of a safe electronic guidance system. In particular, the standard systems engineering methodologies applied for improving existing railway systems is refined to enable deriving correct and precise functional performance requirements at all hierarchical levels of development of the system. Once these requirements are derived, safety management methods and procedures according to the EN50126 railway standards are implemented in the development and realization phases to arrive at at certifiable transportation system safe enough for use in the French town of Douai.
