Describes a patented technique, which is capable of determining the location of a face within a video phone image by means of vector coding, and has been successfully demonstrated on video sequences such as Miss America. While the technique is described within the scenario of locating a face the technique could well be applied hierarchically to parts of the face such as the eyes, nose and mouth, or indeed to any other predefined object
