  • Abstract
The fundamental difference between unsaturated soil and saturated soil is the matrix suction in unsaturated soil which causes distinction in such engineering properties as seepage and shear strength. Seepage and shear strength test were done with unsaturated triaxial apparatus. The results provide law of influence of matrix suction on the engineering properties of unsaturated soil. The conclusions are valuable to theoretic development of unsaturated soil mechanic.
