  • Abstract
Based on traffic specification, the characteristics of traffic accidents on highway Overpass Bridge and current security situation associated, a new barrier has been developed to satisfy the requirement to endure the crash from large truck. To obtain the optimal structural parameters of barrier, an orthogonal method is applied to determine the vehicle-crash to barrier model that enables the simulation to 25 sets of cross section parameters, in which design variations are 6 parameters from barrier cross-section and for each variation considerate 5 levels. Then, SPSS method is applied to analyze the 25 sets of experiment results. Consequently, parameters´ effects on barrier performances are analyzed. Finally, a validation is performed based on optimal structural parameters obtained by analysis of SPSS. The result demonstrates the proposed barrier can prevent trucks of rolling and climbing effectively. Thus, overpass bridge pier is well protected. The barrier designed in this work has a good application characteristic.
