Abstract
The vast majority of small commercial buildings contain rudimentary forms of energy control which are not optiminally efficient. The application of more effective controls can save a total of £200,000,000 per year. The article lists requirements in terms of comfort, economy, monitoring and maintenance. Key equipment consists of the boilers, lighting and refrigeration plant; people and business equipment also affect temperature and other conditions. Control systems to meet the needs, with particular regard to temperature, the efficient use of timing, optimisation and compensation, is then discussed
