Abstract
Miniaturization of patch antennas using magnetodielectric substrates for X band antenna applications is proposed. Substrates of cobalt ferrite and nickel ferrite reinforced in low density polyethylene (LDPE) are synthesized. The inclusions are prepared chemically and characterized structurally and morphologically. The magnetodielectric materials are characterized for complex permittivity and complex permeability in the X band frequencies. Substrates with 1% volume fraction cobalt ferrite and nickel ferrite in the LDPE are used to design rectangular patch antennas. Return loss of -18.85 dB alongwith miniaturization by a factor of 3 has been observed in case of nickel ferrite substrate.
