Abstract :
The fully weathered gravelly sandstone is examined for its suitability as a filling material for high-speed railway subgrade. and embankment by the consideration of long-term stable against water and mechanic and dynamic action. Mineralogically, the soil contains virtually nothing undesirable while its basic geotechnical properties are those generally ascribed to non-problematic soils. The soil has a very low compressibility when the compaction coefficient is 0.95. Grain size distributions of this soil has no significant change after 5-time proctor compactions on the same sample. The stiffness change of the compaction soil has been tested in site and there is a slight reduction of stiffness value. Results obtained in this study show that the fully weathered gravelly sandstone soil is suitable for use as fill materials in embankment and subgrade construction.
