Title :
Simulation-a through life benefit to equipment operators
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
When considering the appropriate level of analysis to apply at any particular stage in a project it is necessary to consider what information is needed by whom and when. Thus the project management plan, is an essential tool in making this assessment. It enables the decision to be made in the light of the overall needs of the project rather than from the view point associated with an isolated phase in the project. This principle applies both when considering developing a new piece of equipment and throughout its service life. It also applies when modifying it and is illustrated by reference to the author´s experience at Frazer-Nash in the design of articulated vehicles. However some of the considerations that need to be taken into account when deciding the appropriate level of modelling to be used at each stage in a project are set out first. The advantages of computer simulation in project development are also discussed
