Abstract
As process plants are inherently time varying, dynamic simulation can provide insight and solutions not available through other techniques, for example in the following areas: safety and environmental aspects, process and control design, operation optimisation, and training and education. The use of modern simulation methods has led to the following trends: replacement of older simulation systems with newer interactive general purpose systems; broadening user base; cheaper simulation projects, faster turn around and more reliable results; and greater model complexity and size
