  • Abstract
It is pointed out that linguistic research has provided new tools for improving stylistic efficiency. These tools are at once more sophisticated than the usual simplistic advice and more likely to yield useful results than even perennial favorite style books. However, to fully make use of them, some perhaps subconscious assumptions about writing may have to be confronted and revised. Improvements in stylistic efficiency come from aligning word order with reader´s expectations so as to restrict the reader´s interpretive latitude
