Abstract
The present paper discusses some of the historical perspectives of cooperation between academia and industry, and their pros and cons. The research and development (R & D) oriented industries of today and the current drive for fetching research funds in universities have bridged the gap between the two. Some examples are given from both industrially developed and developing countries.
