Abstract :
This article presents a software implementation of a MPEG-2 transcoder developed as part of a project on digital video transcoding for the Brazilian System of Digital Television (SBTVD). The transcoder generates a MPEG-2 bit stream from another MPEG-2 bit stream with different attributes. The main advantage of the proposed transcoder is its reduced computational complexity, when compared to the trivial cascade transcoder. In this article we explain the techniques used to reduce complexity and show the quantitative results
