Title :
Strategic issues: the life-cycle of medium/large KBS engineering projects
Author_Institution :
Dept. of Inf., Rutherford Appleton Lab., Chilton, UK
Abstract :
Any software project should be organized; particularly if the project has a duration greater than six months or an effort level greater than three man-months, the organization should correspond to a clearly understood life-cycle. The stereotypical life-cycles for conventional software engineering (the waterfall model) and for knowledge engineering (rapid prototyping) are compared and critiqued. A life-cycle model is proposed and the results of its application in a medium/large KBS application in the utilities area is discussed
