Abstract
After 30 years of activity in designing and producing Power Line Carrier systems for the HV power lines, SELTA approached the brand new Digital PLC technology eight years ago. SELTA developed a family of equipment based on 64 Trellis Code Modulation. These equipment also integrate an Echo Canceller with the goal to improve the spectral efficiency. SELTA strongly supports any modification of the International Norm IEC495 (or eventually a new International Norm) concerning the Analogue PLC technology in order to fit it to the Digital ones. It is worth to underline that the new Digital equipment are fully compatible with the Analogue ones, so to assure a reasonable substitution in the next years. The digital links, thus granting a very low level of BER (10E-6), must also supply an high availability. To reach this result some critical events on the carriers must be considered, such as: noise, spikes, frequency interferences, circuit breaker operations strongly changing signal level and impedance.
