Abstract :
Reports on some experiments which show how a Mach-Zehnder integrated optic modulator (IOM) can be used as an electro-optical signal processing component, whose operation is similar to that of a mixer in an RF system. This `mixer´ has been used in conjunction with an electronic frequency sweeper and a low pass optical detector to analyse the spectrum of an RF signal modulated on an optical carrier, whilst the signal is still in the optical domain
