Abstract
In 1987, in order to reduce the sulphur emissions from fossil-fired power stations, approval was given for the installation of FGD using the limestone-gypsum process on units 4, 5 and 6 at Drax. The author considers the electrical system design aspects of this retrofit project. This includes a description of the main design objectives and constraints on the retrofit project. The author discusses the supply sources, which come from either generator output or a separate grid source, the loads, the selection of voltages, and the transformers and switchgear
