  • Abstract
For several reasons, both environmental and economic, radio transmission is a useful tool in the modernisation of the rural network. Its use will increase further if the low cost technology being developed for mass market mobile applications can be harnessed to provide lower cost systems for rural areas. The author looks at systems like multipoint radio, point-to-point radio, one per customer radio and the provision of mobile radio services in remote areas
