  • Abstract
Since the 3rd stage water storage in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area was realized in 2009, the water-level-fluctuating zone has been formed and the primary landscape has been altered completely in Kaixian. Especially since the water level regulation dam was put into operation, a huge artificial lake has taken its shape, whose area was 13.46km2, and the primary terrestrial ecosystem disappeared. In this study, spatio-temporal evolution of the water-level-fluctuating zone landscape in 2004, 2006, and 2010 in Kai Xian was investigated taking advantage of 3S technology and principal landscape ecology theory. It was found that from 2004 to 2006, other types of landscape were all converted into water landscape owing to the effect of water storage in Three Gorges Reservoir area, while from 2006 to 2010, the landscape pattern of water-level-fluctuating zone was under a great change, with the primary landscape being replaced by wetland landscape without any man-made interference, and the landscape diversity was lowered gradually, which was decreased from i.ll in 2006 to 0.8 in 2010.
