Abstract :
The GOSIP V3.1 Directory Subprofile, GOSIP DIR, is a specification for use of the Directory standards. It is based on the unofficial final version of the CCITT X.500 (88) Recommendations and has been aligned with the joint EWOS/ETSI draft Directory profiles and the US NIST Stable Implementors´ Agreements. It is intended to increase user awareness of the scope and potential of the Directory, to be used as a baseline for discussion with suppliers and to encourage consistency in early implementations. GOSIP DIR provides a specification for reference in the procurement of Directory User Agent (DUA) and/or Directory System Agent (DSA) products for UK Central Government Departments. The paper presents the current GOSIP DIR specifications of requirements for the support of DSA and DUA configurations, functions and Directory information structures. It also reviews the specifications´ compatibility with the current EWOS/ETSI draft Directory profiles and outlines possible future GOSIP DIR work
