Abstract :
The authors first addresses the underlying reasons for radical change in avionic systems by reviewing generic systems and outlining their perceived impact on the future for the system operators, maintainers, supply managers and manufacturers. It sets out the avionic scene, highlights the system elements and their effect on the all important man machine interface. Having established the system elements, future trends are examined and the drivers for change clearly established. An examination of other system possibilities is conducted and the concept of common line replaceable modules is introduced initially with reference to US programmes. The possibilities of extending such a basic modular concept into a fully integrated advanced generic system are explored and the authors then focus on a more detailed examination of the specific system issues
