Abstract :
Interstitial linear arrays could provide accurate control and uniform delivery of heat within a target volume. Calculations of the power distribution from interstitial linear arrays and the resultant heating patterns from simulated treatments were performed to assess their feasibility. Using a 4 MHz linear array with dimensions of 3 mm ×15 mm, a region of heating >50°C was created in 80 s of treatment time. Increased blood flow reduced the mean temperature across the target region, and was investigated for a number of typical resting values in organs
