Abstract :
The Karst under the Quaternary system overburden is called covered karst, which is hidden. The foundation of the high-rise buildings on the covered karst using socketed pile has to be handled in order to satisfy bearing capacity and deformation. So, the treatment depth becomes one of the critical questions. Choosing the optimal treatment depth can both satisfy the need of engineering construction and shorten the construction period as well as save the cost. Taking the covered karst area in TangShan for example in the text, basing on the characteristic of the covered karst, we calculate and analyze the foundation deformation of the different treatment depth on the load of the high-rise buildings. After this, we check the roof stability in the covered karst area. Finally, we can say that the optimal treatment depth is 7m in the covered karst area. In this way, we can provide the reliable basis for similar construction engineerings in the covered karst areas.
